Reporting typically involves selecting the specific, applicable reason, such as harassment, impersonation or scam activity, which helps a platform's moderation team assess the report more accurately and act on it considerably more quickly than a vague, poorly worded general complaint submitted without any detail ever would allow.
Taking a screenshot before actually submitting a report, especially if the content might well be deleted by the person who originally posted it, preserves useful evidence that can matter considerably if the situation ever needs to be escalated further, including in serious cases to the police.
