Digital wallets store card details securely on a device itself, often protected behind a fingerprint, face scan or personal passcode, which in many practical cases makes a transaction genuinely more secure than physically handing over a card at a busy shop counter to a stranger.
Protecting the device itself with a genuinely strong screen lock remains essential, since a digital wallet's overall security is closely tied to the security of the phone or watch it actually lives on, particularly if that specific device is ever lost, misplaced or quietly stolen from a bag.
Reviewing which cards are actually linked to a digital wallet periodically, and removing any that are no longer used or genuinely relevant, keeps the wallet tidy and reduces unnecessary exposure if a device is ever fully compromised by an entirely unfamiliar attacker located somewhere else.
Enabling remote lock and wipe features on your phone means a lost device's digital wallet can be properly disabled fairly quickly, even well before a physical card would typically be reported missing through the usual, considerably slower official reporting channels that are normally freely available.
