Sun Safety Basics for Families
Launch library · evergreen read

Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen generously and reapplying it regularly, particularly after swimming or heavy sweating, remains one of the most effective everyday protections against sun damage for the whole family throughout the warmer months. Reapplying after swimming matters just as much as the first application itself.
Seeking shade during the hottest part of the day, and dressing children in protective clothing including hats and sunglasses, reduces reliance on sunscreen alone, which can genuinely be applied unevenly or wear off faster than expected during play. A wide-brimmed hat does far more work than most people realise.
Being particularly cautious with infants under six months, who are generally advised to be kept out of direct sun entirely rather than relying on sunscreen, which is not typically recommended at all for very young skin. Shade and clothing become the main line of defence for this age group.
Building sun protection into a family's everyday routine, rather than only remembering it for beach days specifically, helps address the cumulative sun exposure that happens during ordinary outdoor activities throughout the entire year. A quick check each morning keeps the whole family covered without much thought.
