Blind and Curtain Cord Safety

Looped cords on blinds and curtains present a genuine strangulation risk for young children, particularly in bedrooms where a cot or bed might happen to be placed near a window, a hazard that is genuinely not always obvious to a busy parent until it is specifically pointed out to them.
Keeping cots, beds and other furniture a genuinely safe distance away from windows fitted with looped cords, and using cord cleats or tension devices to keep those cords securely fastened well out of reach at all times, addresses most of this particular risk fairly directly and effectively.
Newer blind designs increasingly favour genuinely cordless mechanisms or continuous cord loops that are inherently much safer by design, and are well worth considering when replacing window coverings in a child's bedroom specifically, even if it costs a little more money upfront to buy initially.
Checking periodically that any cord safety devices already fitted remain properly secured over time, rather than simply assuming they were installed once and are therefore permanently effective forever after, keeps this particular protection genuinely in place as children continue to grow, climb and explore further.
