Cleaning products are often stored under kitchen sinks or in low bathroom cupboards purely for convenience, which unfortunately places them within remarkably easy reach of young children who are actively exploring at exactly that particular height throughout the entire home, especially during the toddler years when curiosity runs highest.
Keeping chemicals in their original, clearly labelled containers, rather than transferring them into unmarked bottles for convenience, avoids genuine confusion about the actual contents and preserves any safety information printed directly on the original packaging, which can matter enormously in an emergency requiring urgent medical advice.
Never storing cleaning products anywhere near food items in the pantry, and ensuring different chemicals, particularly bleach and ammonia-based products, are kept genuinely well apart from one another, prevents the real risk of a dangerous chemical reaction if containers are ever accidentally mixed together during ordinary use.
A high, properly locked cupboard, kept well out of a child's reach and even their direct sightline, remains the genuinely safest storage option available, and child-resistant caps, while certainly helpful, should never be treated as a complete substitute for secure, deliberate storage in the first place.
