Creating Strong, Unique Passwords

A strong password is generally long rather than complicated, since length contributes considerably more to overall security than a forced mix of symbols, and a random passphrase made of several unrelated words can genuinely be both stronger and easier to remember at once. Four or five ordinary words strung together often beat a short, cryptic jumble.

Reusing the same password across multiple accounts means a single data breach at one website can expose every other account using that same password, which is precisely why uniqueness matters just as much as strength itself in practice. A single reused password can quietly undo protection on every other account.

Avoiding passwords built from easily guessed personal information, such as a birth date, a pet's name or a simple keyboard pattern, closes off one of the most common ways accounts actually end up compromised. These details are often far easier to find publicly than people assume.

Changing a password promptly if you learn it may have been part of a data breach, rather than waiting for a specific problem to actually appear, limits how long a compromised password remains a genuine risk. A quick check of breach notification services makes this habit easier to keep.
